Why are dentists so bothered about illegal teeth whitening?

There are 3 main concerns and they are all about safety.
  • How can a beauty therapist or hairdresser who knows nothing about teeth and gums and diseases ofthe mouth be taught in a few hours how to assess if someone is suitable for teeth whitening? - What do they know about dental decay and gum disease?
  • What sort of sterilisation and cross infection protocols are they using? - Are they registered with the CQC to provide clinical treatment?  - What might you catch?
  • What are they using? – They’re not allowed to use hydrogen peroxide, so they try to get around the rules by using nasty chemicals that no dental professional would EVER put near your teeth!!

So do you STILL want to get your teeth whitened by someone with a mickey mouse certificate?

Did you know each of your teeth has a different job?

  • Your teeth give your face its shape and they give you a nice smile

  • Your teeth help you to chew food when you are eating
  • They help you to talk and make different sounds

  • You have four different types of teeth:
Incisors are at the very front of your mouth. They are your sharpest teeth and help to cut up your food.
Canines are the pointed teeth next to your incisors. They help to hold and tear your food.
Pre-molars are behind your canine teeth, they have a flat chewing  surface as they help to crush your food.
Molars are your very back teeth. They are the big double teeth and they are flat. They help you to chew and grind your food into small pieces which you can then swallow.

Did you know the main cause of tooth decay is the sugar in your foods and drinks?

Every time you eat or drink anything sugary your teeth are under attack from the plaque acids for up to one hour. This is because the sugar mixes with the bacteria in the plaque to produce the harmful plaque acids.

Do You Have Sticky Out, Crowded or Crooked Teeth?

    • Teeth that trap food, which is very annoying
    • Teeth that don't bite together properly
    • Teeth that are hard to clean
Some people have upper front teeth sticking out and this can look unsightly, good orthodontic treatment can move them back into line.

Others have issues with the way their upper and lower jaws meet, causing their teeth to look unsightly and lead to an incorrect bite, which makes eating difficult for them.  When your teeth don't meet correctly it puts strain on the muscles of your jaw, causing jaw and joint problems and in some cases headaches.

Good orthodontic treatment can help you to bite evenly and will reduce the strain on your jaws and it will

Do You Suffer With Sensitive Teeth?

We all know that summer is the time to enjoy ice cream &  iced drinks but if you suffer with sensitive teeth this is a nightmare.
This issue is more common in people aged from 20 – 40 and it also affects people in their early teens and also when they are over 70, and what a surprise - women are more likely to be affected than men!
The causes of tooth sensitivity are:-

    Helping You To Get Over
    Sensitive Teeth Issues
    • If you brush too hard or brush from side to side this can cause your enamel to be worn away especially where your teeth meet your gums. The freshly exposed dentine may then become sensitive.
    • Loss of tooth enamel caused by attacks of acid from acidic food or drinks. If your tooth enamel is worn away the dentine underneath is exposed which may lead to sensitivity.
    • Your gums may naturally shrink back (recede), and the roots will become exposed and can then be more sensitive.  Your root surfaces do not have an enamel layer to protect them.
    • Your gums can recede down your tooth due to a build-up of plaque or tartar this can even destroy the bony support of your tooth.  Pockets can form in the gums around your tooth, making the area difficult to keep clean and the problem worsens.
    • Grinding and clenching your teeth together can cause your tooth enamel to be worn away, making your teeth sensitive.
    • A cracked tooth or broken filling - A crack can run from the biting surface of your tooth down towards the root. Extreme temperatures, especially cold, may cause you discomfort.
A lot of reasons why you could have sensitive teeth, let us help you to overcome this issue and you could spend summer 2013 eating ice cream.
