Do You Suffer With Sensitive Teeth?

We all know that summer is the time to enjoy ice cream &  iced drinks but if you suffer with sensitive teeth this is a nightmare.
This issue is more common in people aged from 20 – 40 and it also affects people in their early teens and also when they are over 70, and what a surprise - women are more likely to be affected than men!
The causes of tooth sensitivity are:-

Helping You To Get Over
Sensitive Teeth Issues
  • If you brush too hard or brush from side to side this can cause your enamel to be worn away especially where your teeth meet your gums. The freshly exposed dentine may then become sensitive.
  • Loss of tooth enamel caused by attacks of acid from acidic food or drinks. If your tooth enamel is worn away the dentine underneath is exposed which may lead to sensitivity.
  • Your gums may naturally shrink back (recede), and the roots will become exposed and can then be more sensitive.  Your root surfaces do not have an enamel layer to protect them.
  • Your gums can recede down your tooth due to a build-up of plaque or tartar this can even destroy the bony support of your tooth.  Pockets can form in the gums around your tooth, making the area difficult to keep clean and the problem worsens.
  • Grinding and clenching your teeth together can cause your tooth enamel to be worn away, making your teeth sensitive.
  • A cracked tooth or broken filling - A crack can run from the biting surface of your tooth down towards the root. Extreme temperatures, especially cold, may cause you discomfort.
A lot of reasons why you could have sensitive teeth, let us help you to overcome this issue and you could spend summer 2013 eating ice cream.

Are Your Gums Bleeding?

If they are you need to see a dentist NOW !

Gingivitis is a serious chronic condition caused by the long-term effects of plaque, a sticky material made of a build up of bacteria, mucus and food debris and hard plaque (tartar). Most of us have some degree of  gingivitis from time to time, but consistent dental care can turn it around and  prevent serious issues.

Tartar requires a trip to the dental clinic where a therapist or hygienist uses specialized ultra-sonic cleaning equipment to break off the tartar and allow your gums to heal.

Periodontal disease occurs when gingivitis is left untreated.

Whilst gingivitis is restricted to your gums, periodontal disease spreads into the tissue and bone that support your teeth. It causes gum tissue to be raw and to have the appearance of pulling away from your teeth. You may also notice pus in between your teeth and around your gums.

Yellow secretions between your teeth is bad, you're running the risk of tooth loss or tooth death (even a root canal can't save the tooth's foundation). Left untreated, periodontal disease can spread to the point where you could lose some, or even all of your teeth.

One of the most serious explanations for bleeding gums is a bleeding disorder, such as idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP).

With ITP bleeding and bruising are signs of your blood's inability to clot, gums and mouth are frequently the first place where symptoms appear. Along with bleeding, you might also notice pinpoint bruises on your gums and frequent nosebleeds.
